The National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) has issued a warning regarding unauthorized transport of sheep, considering it "the greatest biological threat to Romania," in the context of the spread of Small Ruminant Pest (PMR) and Sheep and Goat Pox (VOC).
The President of ANSVSA, Alexandru Nicolae Bociu, emphasized the importance of applying technical and legal measures to protect healthy livestock. ANSVSA considers that testing and quarantining sheep intercepted without documents are "useless," given the risks of virus spread. Severe measures include confiscation of animals and euthanasia without compensation for clandestine transports.
ANSVSA encourages farmers to report suspicious symptoms to protect the agricultural sector and Romanian exports.
