The Vatican has announced that Pope Leo XIV will undertake an apostolic tour in South America, from November 6 to 17, with stops in Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru. This visit holds special significance, as the Pope was a missionary and bishop in Peru for several decades before becoming the sovereign pontiff.
In Uruguay, the Pope will be present from November 6 to 8, in Argentina from November 8 to 11, and in Peru from November 11 to 17. During his stay in Peru, he will visit the cities of Lima, Cusco, Pucallpa, and Chiclayo, where he served as a bishop.
Additionally, in Argentina, the schedule includes visits to Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and Luján, while in Uruguay to Montevideo, Paysandú, and Florida. Pope Leo XIV is the first pope from the United States, also holding Peruvian citizenship.
The complete details of the itinerary will be announced later. The last papal visit to South America took place in 2018, when Pope Francis traveled to Chile and Peru.
