Polish authorities announced on Monday the seizure of approximately one ton of heroin, valued at 220 million zlotys (60 million dollars), one of the largest drug busts in recent years. The drugs were discovered in containers arriving from the United Arab Emirates, at the port of Gdynia, thanks to information received from British customs authorities.
The Minister of the Interior, Marcin Kierwinski, emphasized the seriousness of the situation, warning of the devastating consequences if such a quantity of heroin were to reach the Polish market. The drugs were hidden among decorative bricks and were identified with the help of X-ray equipment. Three Polish citizens have been detained in connection with this case, and investigations are ongoing to uncover more details about the trafficking network involved.
