A minibus driver who operated routes between the Netherlands and Romania unknowingly transported 2.4 kilograms of cocaine and 6.1 kilograms of heroin, worth approximately 900,000 euros. The drugs were discovered after the man was robbed in Bihor County.
The driver told investigators that he had received the packages in the Netherlands and was supposed to transport them to Romania. In the town of Avram Iancu, the passengers asked him to stop so they could collect their luggage. When he got out to hand it over, four people attacked him, stole the two packages and fled in another car.
The man called 112, and Bihor police officers arrived at the scene together with a tracking dog trained to detect drugs and dangerous objects. The animal indicated that there were traces of prohibited substances in the trailer, and the suspects' vehicle was placed under surveillance.
The four men, aged between 22 and 43, were intercepted in Timiș County. Seven packages containing drugs were found in boxes hidden beneath bottles of beverages. The suspects were detained and placed in preventive custody for aggravated robbery and aiding and abetting the international and domestic trafficking of high-risk drugs. They face up to 20 years in prison. The person who sent the packages is the subject of a separate international investigation.
