On December 15, a physical conflict broke out between Mexican deputies in Congress, caught and broadcast live by television stations. The incident occurred during a debate about the reform of the government transparency oversight agency, when deputies from the National Action Party (PAN) protested against a rule they accused of being violated by the leftist Morena party.
The violent scenes showed the parliamentarians pulling each other's hair and exchanging blows, while the Morena deputies tried to push them away from the podium. Andres Atayde, an associate of the PAN deputies, stated that the protest was peaceful, but the governing majority reacted with violence. After the altercation, the PAN deputies left the room, and the debate continued without their presence, which was criticized by Daniela Alvarez, one of the involved deputies.
