Paramount has emerged victorious in the competition for the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) after Netflix withdrew, considering Paramount's offer "superior." Netflix refused to increase its offer, which led to a 9% rise in Paramount's shares following the announcement. WBD CEO David Zaslav expressed optimism about the merger, stating that it will create value for shareholders. Paramount offered $31 per share, including a "regulatory breakup fee" of $7 billion, thus attracting the WBD Board of Directors. Netflix's withdrawal was interpreted by some as a support for the value of Paramount's offer. Additionally, recent discussions by Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos with Trump administration officials have sparked controversy, being seen as a possible influence on Netflix's decision to withdraw from the bidding. Paramount intends to acquire all WBD assets, including CNN and HBO, thereby strengthening its media empire.
