The British Competition Authority (CMA) approved on Thursday the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount Skydance, in a $110 billion deal, considering that it will not significantly affect competition in the UK market.

The British government decided not to intervene for public interest reasons, taking into account Paramount's commitments to maintain the supply of programming and news services. The CMA investigation analyzed the activities of the companies in film distribution, content production, and streaming services, finding that, although the resulting entity will be the largest film distributor in the UK, it will continue to face strong competition from other major studios.

Additionally, the CMA assessed that the merger will not significantly affect children's TV channels, considering the alternatives available to consumers. Regarding streaming services, competition will remain robust, with platforms like Netflix and Disney+. The CMA's decision comes after the approval of the deal by the European Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice; however, in the United States, the completion of the merger is on hold due to a legal action.
