A farmer from Ghazni province, Afghanistan, discovered a suspicious object in his garden and alerted the authorities. Security and demining teams established that it was a bomb weighing approximately 500 kilograms, left over from the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, between 1979 and 1989. The explosive was transported to a mountainous area and detonated safely, without casualties. Afghanistan continues to face numerous mines and munitions left over from decades of war, and the number of demining teams has significantly decreased due to lack of funding.
