Several artillery shells of various calibers and other items of unexploded ordnance were discovered on the Capital’s ring road during work to widen the traffic lanes. The munitions were found by workers carrying out construction in the area and were safely removed by specialist teams.

After the situation was reported, explosive ordnance disposal specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Detachment of the Special Unit for Intervention in Emergency Situations (USISU) were sent to the scene. They surveyed the area, identified the munitions and began clearance operations to check whether any other dangerous objects remained in the work zone.

The shells and other items discovered were safely removed. The munitions will be stored temporarily and subsequently destroyed, in accordance with the procedures applicable to unexploded ordnance.

Authorities advise citizens not to touch, move or transport shells, grenades or other suspicious objects. In the event of such a discovery, people should move away and immediately notify the authorities by calling 112.
