A World War II grenade was found on the sugar beet processing line at a factory in Neamț County

A defensive hand grenade dating back to World War II was discovered by employees of a company in Roman, Neamț County, while they were cleaning equipment used to process sugar beets. The ammunition is believed to have arrived at the factory with beets harvested from agricultural land.

The incident was reported to the single emergency number 112, and bomb disposal technicians from the Neamț Inspectorate for Emergency Situations intervened at the scene. They recovered the grenade, transported it and stored it safely, with the ammunition set to be destroyed.

The bomb disposal team checked the area where the object was found but did not identify any other ammunition. According to ISU Neamț, such incidents occur every autumn at the economic operator in Roman, the only factory in the northeastern region that processes sugar beets. Ammunition left in agricultural fields is brought to the surface during harvesting and subsequently reaches the processing line.
