Pyrotechnicians from the Iași Inspectorate for Emergency Situations discovered four explosive shells on Wednesday in the localities of Bogonos, Lețcani commune, and Dumbrava, Lespezi commune. Three of the shells were found along the route of the A8 Motorway during infrastructure works.
In Dumbrava, a 152-millimeter explosive shell was identified, while three 150-millimeter shells were found in Bogonos. The ordnance was safely removed and will be destroyed as part of a specially organized mission.
ISU Iași warns that unexploded ordnance can remain dangerous even after decades, regardless of the degree of rust or its apparently deteriorated condition. The risk persists, including in areas where excavation, construction, land development or road infrastructure works are being carried out.
When a suspicious object is discovered, all works and machinery operations must be stopped immediately, and the area must be cleared and cordoned off. Members of the public must not touch, move, strike or dismantle the ordnance, nor drive over it with cars or machinery. The authorities must be urgently notified by calling 112, and activities may resume only after the danger has been removed.
