Since the new one-to-one agreement between the UK and France came into force, more than 2,500 migrants have crossed the English Channel. Under the plan, one migrant will be returned to France for every person accepted in the UK with a strong asylum case. Since the start of the year, some 28,000 migrants have arrived by sea, and the total number now exceeds 50,000. British authorities are working with France to stop the traffic, and Prime Minister Keir Starmer has vowed to crack down on illegal entries. Afghans are the most numerous migrants, followed by Syrians and Iranians.
