OpenAI, known for creating ChatGPT, launched the Atlas browser on Tuesday, a strategic move to become a gateway for online searches and generate revenue from digital advertising. Currently, the application is only available on Apple laptops with macOS, with versions for Windows, iOS, and Android expected to be released soon. Atlas will directly compete with Google Chrome, the most popular browser, which has about 3 billion users and already integrates artificial intelligence features.
OpenAI, which has over 800 million users for ChatGPT, is looking to diversify its revenue sources, considering that expenses exceed earnings. The launch comes after an OpenAI executive mentioned interest in buying Chrome in the event of a court decision, but the idea was dismissed. OpenAI enters a competitive market, but history shows that success is possible, as demonstrated by Google with Chrome in 2008.
