Since September, North Korea has deployed approximately 5,000 soldiers from construction troops in Russia, according to South Korean lawmaker Lee Seong-kweun. They are mobilized to help rebuild the infrastructure affected by the war in Ukraine. Currently, it is estimated that 10,000 North Korean soldiers are near the border with Ukraine, and the South Korean intelligence agency has observed signs of training for the deployment of additional troops. It is also estimated that at least 600 North Korean soldiers have died in the conflict in Ukraine. In exchange for sending troops, North Korea receives financial aid, military technology, and supplies from Russia, allowing it to avoid international sanctions. Despite the tensions, Kim Jong Un may be open to discussions with the U.S., and the intelligence agency suggests that Pyongyang is preparing for possible negotiations.
