The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) announced that it has confirmed the death of 5,848 people following the protests in Iran, which began in December and were violently suppressed. Of these, 5,520 were protesters, while the rest included minors, members of the security forces, and bystanders. HRANA is also investigating another 17,091 possible deaths, estimating that the actual toll could be much higher, complicated by the internet shutdown since January 8. Additionally, the NGO reported the arrest of at least 41,283 people. Iranian authorities have provided an official toll of 3,117 deaths, most of whom are considered "martyrs." The Iran Human Rights organization has confirmed 3,428 deaths, fearing that the actual number could reach 25,000, while an opposition television station estimated over 36,500 deaths.
