Four months after the death of Ayatollah Khamenei, thousands of believers gathered at the Great Mosalla in Tehran to pay their last tribute. The coffin, covered with his black turban, is displayed within the religious complex, and Iranian authorities estimate that between 15 and 20 million people will attend the funeral, which is expected to be the largest in Iran's history.
The ceremony, which will take place over six days, includes a procession through the capital and stops in cities in Iran and Iraq, before the burial in Mashhad. In central Tehran, security measures are heightened, with police barricades and tents to accommodate participants. The funeral, previously postponed due to the war, will also include tributes from Iranian and foreign officials.
