Austrian authorities announced on Monday that they thwarted approximately 500 cyberattacks targeting the Eurovision 2026 contest held in Vienna, including the competition's website and access control systems in the arena.

Michael Takacs, the commander of the federal police in Austria, stated that the attempts at cyber sabotage were unsuccessful and did not lead to serious incidents. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner emphasized that law enforcement successfully ensured the safe and peaceful conduct of the event. About 3,500 police officers were mobilized, supported by special units from Bavaria, and authorities monitored social media activity to identify potential threats. The contest was also marked by protests, particularly against Israel's participation, and 16 people were arrested in connection with the event.
