NASA, under the leadership of administrator Jared Isaacman, has announced plans to build a nuclear reactor on the Moon by 2030, as part of the Artemis program, which aims to return astronauts to the lunar surface. The project has moved from the study phase to implementation, with a memorandum signed between NASA and the U.S. Department of Energy to meet the deadline. The reactor will generate continuous electricity, essential for infrastructure on the Moon and, subsequently, Mars. Although officials emphasize the importance of this project, the Artemis program has faced significant delays. The U.S. expresses concern that it could be surpassed by China in the race for lunar exploration, considering the joint plans of China and Russia to develop a nuclear reactor.
