The United States is considering the installation of some nuclear reactors at sea

The United States announced on Wednesday that it has created a "clear framework" for the future installation of nuclear reactors at sea, as part of the Trump administration's efforts to significantly increase nuclear energy production.

Although there are no approved commercial projects, interest in floating nuclear power plants is growing, with Russia already having such a plant, the "Akademik Lomonosov." The Marine Minerals Management (MMA) has signed an agreement with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to collaborate in this area. MMA Director Matt Giacona emphasized that underwater reactors have been safely used in naval applications and could enhance the energy security of the U.S.

While interest in floating nuclear energy is increasing, the Trump administration is focusing on limiting offshore wind projects. Critics, such as Nick Katkevich from the Center for Biological Diversity, have denounced the plans as harmful to marine life.
