Dmitri Medvedev, Vice President of the Security Council of Russia, stated that tensions within NATO could lead the European Union to become "a military alliance in full order." In this context, Medvedev emphasized the need for Moscow to abandon its "tolerant attitude" towards the possible accession of Ukraine to the EU. He stated that there are strong contradictions within NATO, exacerbated by the Iranian campaign, and that European factors are seriously considering the creation of a military component in the EU.
Medvedev insisted that the EU is no longer just an economic union and could become a military alliance hostile to Russia, even more dangerous than NATO. He also expressed the belief that the US will not withdraw from NATO, but could take symbolic measures, such as reducing the number of American soldiers in Europe. The Kremlin continues to oppose Ukraine's accession to NATO, considering it an essential condition for ending the conflict.
