Massive Russian attacks on Kyiv have resulted in the death of four people and the injury of another 24, leaving half of the residential buildings without heating in extremely cold conditions. Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged residents to temporarily evacuate the city, a measure unprecedented since the beginning of the Russian invasion in 2022. Nearly 417,000 households have been left without electricity due to the attacks. Russia launched 36 missiles and 242 drones, of which 18 missiles and 226 drones were shot down. President Zelensky called for an international response, emphasizing that the attacks pose a serious threat to European security.

The hypersonic missile Kinzhal, used in the attacks, can carry nuclear warheads, but it was not equipped with such payloads during these strikes. Russia justified the attacks as a response to an alleged terrorist act, an accusation rejected by Ukraine and the West. In the context of these attacks, Ukraine has also intensified its strikes on Russian energy infrastructure.
