The Moscow region was targeted by a massive drone attack on Saturday night into Sunday, as Russia was holding the second day of the State Duma elections. Governor Andrei Vorobyov announced that Russian air defenses had shot down 249 drones in 17 districts between 03:00 and 05:00.
The attack left at least two people dead and several others injured. A drone struck an apartment building in the town of Sofiino, where a woman was killed and five other people, including two children, were injured. In Ramenskoye, drone debris caused a fire on the roof of a 21-story apartment building, and approximately 400 residents were evacuated. Another man died after a drone struck a private residence.
Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports were temporarily closed for safety reasons. The Russian Defense Ministry had earlier reported intercepting 288 Ukrainian drones in several regions, in occupied Crimea, and over the Black Sea.
The attack took place after Volodymyr Zelensky announced the approval of new long-range Ukrainian operations in response to Russian strikes.
