French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that a military operation to force the opening of the Strait of Hormuz would be unrealistic, after American President Donald Trump expressed anger at NATO allies for not participating in its reopening, Reuters reports.

"Some people defend the idea of liberating the Strait of Hormuz by force through a military operation, a position sometimes expressed by the United States, although it has varied," Macron told reporters during a visit to South Korea.

"This has never been the option I supported because it is unrealistic," he added. "It would take forever and expose everyone passing through the strait to risks from the guardians of the revolution, as well as from ballistic missiles," he said.

Donald Trump has expressed anger at NATO for not helping him to unblock the Strait of Hormuz and even threatened to pull the United States out of the North Atlantic Alliance.
