Keir Starmer, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and leader of the Labour Party, has announced that he will resign from the House of Commons, where he has represented the constituency in North London for 11 years, taking over from Frank Dobson. In a post on platform X, Starmer stated that he wishes to focus on international issues such as defense, security, trade, and technology, but will continue to engage in combating violence against women. His resignation will trigger a by-election in the North London constituency, which Starmer has represented since 2025, marking the first significant electoral test for Andy Burnham, the new Prime Minister, following Starmer's replacement in July. Starmer won the constituency in 2024 with 48.9% of the votes, and the Green Party performed better in the recent local elections.
