A Romanian citizen convicted in London for involvement in arson attacks targeting properties associated with former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has been expelled from the United Kingdom, the British Home Office announced. The authorities did not specify which country Stanislav Carpiuc was sent to.
Carpiuc, a Romanian citizen born in Ukraine, was sentenced to two years in prison in June. He and Ukrainian national Roman Lavrinovici were found guilty of involvement in attacks on properties linked to Keir Starmer, carried out in May 2025. Lavrinovici received a seven-year sentence.
According to the judicial investigation, the two acted on the orders of a Russian-speaking contact on Telegram, identified as “EL” or “El Money”. The court established that Stanislav Carpiuc did not participate directly in the arson attacks, but tried to recover the money promised for committing the offenses.
Several British publications linked the attacks to Russia, but the judge did not mention this aspect in the verdict. The BBC reported that “EL” may be Evgeny Liukshin, a young Russian diplomat. He allegedly recruited people through Telegram groups for Russian- and Ukrainian-speaking individuals seeking work in London.
