Keir Starmer's decision to appoint Peter Mandelson as ambassador to Washington has sparked controversy, given his connections to the sexual abuser Jeffrey Epstein.

Starmer is facing a revolt within the Labour Party, and several MPs have warned that his days as Prime Minister are numbered. Mandelson has resigned from the House of Lords and is being investigated by the police for misconduct in public office. Additionally, documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice suggest that Mandelson passed government information to Epstein. Starmer has succumbed to pressure and was forced to make public the documents related to Mandelson's appointment, which could lead to a challenge to the party leadership.

Despite his explanations, Starmer has failed to quell the criticism, and some MPs have called for the resignation of his chief of staff. Starmer stated that he acted swiftly to dismiss Mandelson, but the anger among MPs remains high, and confidence in his leadership is declining.
