Jimmie Duncan, a man from Louisiana who spent nearly 30 years on death row, was released after a court overturned his conviction, finding that the evidence used against him was inadequate. Convicted in 1998 for the alleged rape and drowning of his girlfriend's daughter, Duncan was released after Judge Alvin Sharp determined that the dental fingerprint analysis used in the trial was invalid. The victim's mother recently stated that she now believes her daughter died accidentally, not that she was murdered. Although prosecutors are trying to reinstate the conviction, Duncan was released on a $150,000 bond and will live with a family member in Louisiana. This situation highlights issues related to forensic methods, particularly dental fingerprint analysis, which have led to numerous wrongful convictions across the country.
