Romania participated in the evacuation of five sick children from Gaza Strip, together with members of their families, as part of the 12th humanitarian operation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announces that Romania carried out an emergency medical evacuation operation from the Gaza Strip on Monday, August 31, 2026, evacuating five sick children and a total of 20 people.

This action was carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Health, under the coordination of the European Commission structures. The evacuation took place as part of the commitments made by Romania at the Peace Council in Washington, aiming to ensure specialized medical care for vulnerable pediatric patients.

The operation was supported by the Romanian Embassy in Tel Aviv, and on board the C-130 Hercules aircraft was a SMURD medical team. Two of the patients will receive treatment in Romania, while the other three will be transferred to Belgium. The MFA reaffirms Romania's commitment to support the population affected by the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
