A medical student with Canadian citizenship received a new sentence of 29 years in prison after the court reviewed the initial life sentence for double murder. The incident, which occurred 5 years ago, involved the killing of his friend and his fiancée with dozens of stab wounds, followed by the burning of the house.

The judges at the Court of Appeal in Târgu Mureș considered that the act was not premeditated, but rather the result of a spontaneous altercation fueled by alcohol and illegal substances. The reason for the dispute was a photograph in which the student was mocked. The court emphasized that the initial investigation was based more on assumptions than on concrete evidence, which led to the reduction of the sentence. The young man's lawyers requested an acquittal, arguing that the evidence was not scientifically proven, but the request was rejected by the judges.
