Three executions scheduled in a single day in the USA, a premiere after 16 years

On Thursday, three death row inmates will be executed in Alabama, Oklahoma, and Tennessee, a first in the United States in more than 16 years, according to the Death Penalty Information Center (DPIC).

The executions are scheduled by lethal injection, the predominant method in the country. The last time such a large number of inmates was executed on the same day was on January 7, 2010.

Of the three inmates, two were convicted of killing women, and the third for the murder and rape of a girl. The first executions are scheduled for 10:00 AM in Tennessee and Oklahoma, and the third in Alabama at 6:00 PM.

Organizations such as Death Penalty Action have organized protests at the site. Since the beginning of the year, 19 inmates have been executed in the U.S., mostly in Florida and Texas.

The death penalty has been abolished in 23 U.S. states, and in three others, there is a moratorium. President Donald Trump supports the application of the death penalty for the most serious crimes.
