<p>Referendums in Italy, aimed at relaxing citizenship laws and tightening labor protection rules, have been invalidated due to a low turnout of less than 30%. It represents a setback for the divided center-left opposition and the unions that backed them. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who strongly opposed the initiatives, emerged stronger from the process, while the opposition was weakened. The turnout was higher in developed northern regions and big cities than in the less developed south.
