The Senate rejected, in its capacity as the decision-making chamber, the new integrity law, which was supposed to bring significant changes regarding asset declarations and situations of incompatibility for dignitaries. The project was voted on by only 55 senators, while 28 abstained and 29 did not vote.

The amendments proposed by the PSD, which would have affected the mandate of the mayor of Timișoara, Dominic Fritz, generated controversy. USR and PNL announced that they would reintroduce the law in a modified version, and the debates will continue next week.

The law would have included the removal of the obligation to declare cash income and would have kept the ownership of spouses' assets secret. Criticism was also voiced by PNL leaders, who highlighted the unconstitutionality of some amendments. The law sparked discontent in the Chamber of Deputies, and discussions will continue in the coming weeks.
