An Iranian court has ruled that the United States must pay 22 billion dollars in damages for its support of the anti-government protests in 2022, which erupted after the death of a young woman arrested for violating the Islamic dress code. The protests, the most violent in Iran since the 1979 revolution, were deemed by authorities to be instigated by Israel and Western countries, with the aim of provoking a regime change. A spokesperson for the Iranian judiciary stated that the involvement of the U.S. was evident in the crimes committed during these protests, which led to hundreds of deaths and thousands of arrests. Additionally, in 2023, an Iranian court sentenced the U.S. to another "fine" of 50 billion dollars for the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani in Iraq in 2020.
