Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said in Kyiv, during the annual meeting of the Yalta European Strategy, that NATO could defeat Russia within a short time in the event of an attack on the alliance. The remarks were made during a speech about NATO and Europe’s military capabilities.
Sikorski argued that the alliance has a “huge advantage” over Russia in terms of air power and that NATO has approximately 2,500 aircraft. According to the minister, if the alliance used its full force, Russia could be defeated quickly.
The Polish official also said that NATO would remain strong without the participation of the United States. He cited F-35 aircraft, JASSM missiles and other strike capabilities of the European allies.
Sikorski also said that Europe could destroy Russia’s remaining refining capacity within a few weeks. The statements represent the Polish minister’s assessment in a hypothetical conflict scenario and do not indicate that an attack on NATO is underway.
