Indian authorities are preparing for the impact of Cyclone Montha, which is expected to reach the coast of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday evening or during the night. In this context, schools have been closed, and over 50,000 people, especially fishermen from the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha, have been evacuated to temporary shelters. Strong winds, with speeds of up to 110 km/h, can cause significant damage, and heavy rains can lead to landslides.
Authorities have mobilized response teams and placed 19 districts under red alert. Cyclones are common in the Bay of Bengal between April and November, causing severe destruction and flooding. Climate change is contributing to the intensification of these storms.
