The authorities in Greece have decided to take measures against excessive tourism, which threatens the country's wild beaches.
According to the new regulations, called 'Untouched Beaches' (Apatites Paralies), strict limits are imposed on commercial activities on certain beaches, including the prohibition of placing sunbeds and umbrellas in certain areas. Additionally, constructions on beaches and in their vicinity are prohibited, and the use of motorized vessels is restricted to protect the local ecosystem.
Although tourism is essential for Greece's economy, officials emphasize the importance of finding a balance to prevent long-term damage. Currently, 251 beaches are included on the list of protected areas, covering famous locations in Crete, Corfu, and Lefkada. These measures are intended to ensure the conservation of these valuable natural areas.
