In a recent warning, German authorities underline the risks of recruiting "one-time agents" by Russia through social networks. These individuals, often without training in the field of espionage, are involved in activities such as spreading pro-Russian messages, espionage, or acts of sabotage, sometimes without knowing the ultimate purpose of their actions. The Federal Criminal Police Office in Germany and the internal, external, and military intelligence services have observed an increase in activities where Russian intelligence services, directly or through intermediaries, use social networks to recruit individuals for espionage or sabotage. German authorities warn that such activities can attract penalties of up to 10 years in prison and encourage citizens to contact intelligence agencies if approached with such proposals.
