Participants reported severe symptoms, including difficulty breathing and skin burns, after being exposed to water cannons. A study conducted by Konstantine Chakhunashvili confirmed the prevalence of long-term adverse effects among protesters. The former head of the armament department of the anti-riot police, Lasha Shergelashvili, stated that the substance used was much stronger than ordinary tear gas.

The Georgian authorities dismissed the allegations, claiming that the police acted legally. These events raise serious questions about the use of chemical weapons in controlling protests.
