In the last 24 hours, Latvian soldiers intervened at the border with Belarus, using tear gas and warning shots to stop a group of aggressive migrants.

The incident occurred after Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs stated that the number of migrants attempting to enter Latvia has recently doubled, describing the situation as a "hybrid threat." Latvia, Poland, and Lithuania accuse Belarus and Russia of organizing the flow of migrants from the Middle East and Africa, with the aim of destabilizing the region.

In this context, the authorities in Latvia have increased the number of border guards and are collaborating with Lithuanian and Estonian forces. Wednesday's incident was marked by the aggression of the migrants, who threw logs at soldiers before retreating in response to warning fire. This situation recalls previous incidents, such as the use of water cannons by Poland in 2021.
