Nick Stewart, a former lobbyist and member of the State Department during the first Trump administration, has joined the diplomatic team working to end the conflict with Iran, according to American officials. Stewart was brought in by Jared Kushner and participated in a delegation that traveled to Islamabad in April, but that round of negotiations failed. He previously worked for an organization known for its support for military actions against Iran. Stewart is also mentioned in several lobbying records, having spent over 2 million dollars on foreign policy issues. Recently, American officials were asked by Congress why there are no nuclear experts in the delegation, and the Secretary of Energy stated that his team provides expertise remotely. Stewart was praised by Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, who described him as a top expert in Iran policy.
