Jared Kushner, special envoy and son-in-law of American President Donald Trump, will travel to Israel next week to address the divergences between the US and Israel regarding the plan for the Gaza Strip. He will be accompanied by Nikolai Mladenov, the senior representative for Gaza, within the 'Peace Council' created by Trump.
The visit comes after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly rejected, on August 9, the American roadmap that calls for the disarmament of the Hamas group and Israel's withdrawal from Gaza. Although Hamas accepted the plan, Israel conditions its withdrawal on a 'real' disarmament of the group.
Kushner and Mladenov hope to have 'constructive discussions' to accelerate progress in implementing the peace plan, which includes a ceasefire by October 2025. Netanyahu, under election pressure, has promised that there will be no withdrawal without the verifiable disarmament of Hamas.
