An Air France flight, which was flying from Paris to Detroit, was diverted to Montreal on Wednesday to disembark a passenger who is a citizen of the Democratic Republic of Congo, due to precautions related to the Ebola outbreak. The flight took off from Charles de Gaulle Airport at 16:03 (GMT) and landed in Montreal at 17:15 (local time). After a stopover of over an hour, the plane continued to its original destination, arriving in Detroit at 20:08 (GMT). Air France explained that it complied with the refusal of entry into the United States for the Congolese passenger, who showed no symptoms and was safely disembarked in Montreal.
A passenger expressed outrage at the crew's communication, stating that she was alarmed by the crew's wearing of masks without being informed about the reason for the diversion. The United States allows entry for citizens of the DRC only through Washington-Dulles Airport.
