The painting, originally acquired by an Italian collector at a flea market, has been identified as the work of the famous artist Amedeo Modigliani. The attribution has been confirmed by the Modigliani Archive in Rome and Italian experts believe the painting depicts Mario Cavalieri, a friend of the artist. This is a real windfall for the collector, as Modigliani's works fetch huge sums at auction.
