Two thieves broke into the Renoir Museum in Cagnes-sur-Mer on Tuesday morning after cutting through the fence and the paintings’ mounting systems. The alarm was triggered at 05:48, and the suspects fled when police arrived at the scene, approximately five minutes later. They were wearing protective equipment and using power tools.
“Portrait de Madame Pichon” and “Coco Lisant” were recovered, while “Portrait de Madame Colonna Romano” and “Jeune fille au puits” remain missing. Each work is valued at approximately 9 million euros. Mayor Bryan Masson called for additional funding to secure museums, warning about organized crime targeting works of art.
