A fire broke out in Guryong Village, the last shantytown area in Gangnam, with no casualties reported so far. 47 residents were evacuated as a precaution, according to an official from the Seoul Emergency Management and Disaster Headquarters. Authorities raised the alert level to two due to the risks of the fire spreading to a nearby mountainous area. 85 fire trucks were dispatched to the scene, but aerial intervention was impossible due to dense smoke and fine dust particles. The Minister of Safety, Yun Ho-jung, requested the mobilization of all resources to save lives and extinguish the fire. Guryong Village, known for its improvised housing, is set to be reconfigured into modern residential complexes.
