A fire that broke out overnight from Friday to Saturday in an apartment on the second floor of a building in Vanju Mare, Mehedinti County, damaged the balcony and living room and destroyed approximately 20 square meters of the building’s roof. Twelve people were evacuated, but no one required medical attention.
Firefighters from the Vanju Mare Station responded on Aleea Garofitei Street with two firefighting vehicles and a SMURD ambulance. When the crews arrived, the fire had spread throughout the balcony and extended to the roof.
The flames affected approximately 30 square meters of the apartment’s balcony and living room. The entire apartment and the stairwell were filled with smoke. During the intervention, five dogs and three birds were also evacuated.
The intervention was made more difficult by the large quantity of textiles stored in the apartment. According to the Mehedinti County Emergency Situations Inspectorate, the probable cause of the fire was the storage of ash and unextinguished embers near combustible materials.
