A fire broke out overnight from Friday to Saturday at a block of flats in the town of Balș, Olt County. Firefighters evacuated 52 people, two of whom received medical assistance at the scene but refused transport to hospital.
The flames destroyed goods stored in five drying rooms in the building and approximately 100 square metres of roofing. The smoke affected 21 apartments. The fire was extinguished by crews from the Olt Emergency Situations Inspectorate, who responded with six firefighting vehicles, seven SMURD emergency vehicles, two vehicles for operations at height and several first-response vehicles.
After extinguishing the fire, firefighters began removing the damage and inspecting the building. The probable cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical short circuit caused by a defective or improperly insulated conductor. No people were reported to have been transported to hospital. | slug: {{slug}}
