Ferrari officially launched Luce, its first fully electric model, in Rome, marking the entry of the Italian manufacturer into a new era of electrification.
The new model, which can reach 310 km/h and has a price of over 500,000 euros, is a significant shift in Ferrari's strategy, at a time when other sports car manufacturers are slowing down their electric plans. Luce, a name that means "light" in Italian, has a different design and larger dimensions compared to classic models, developed with the help of Jony Ive's LoveFrom studio. The first deliveries are scheduled for October.
"It is a risk and a bet. But it is a good thing, because Ferrari is paving the way," said Phil Dunne, director at the consulting firm Grant Thornton Stax.
Under the leadership of Benedetto Vigna, Ferrari has invested heavily in electrification, but has postponed plans for a second electric model until 2028 due to weak demand. The company also aims for electric models to represent 20% of its range by 2030. Ferrari hopes that Luce will attract a new generation of wealthy clients, more open to electric vehicles, in the context of rising oil prices.
