Extreme temperatures in Japan and South Korea have reached record highs, with Japan reporting the highest temperature of 41.2°C. Official warnings highlight the risks of sunstroke and heat exhaustion, with South Korea recording 22 consecutive tropical nights. The heat wave led to 13 deaths in South Korea and more than 10,800 hospitalizations in Japan, mostly among the elderly. Authorities forecast high temperatures to persist.
