Southern and Eastern Europe is facing an extreme heatwave that began on June 20 and has led to hundreds of additional deaths, disrupting daily life. In Croatia, a red alert has been issued for regions such as Zagreb, and firefighters are battling wildfires on the island of Vis. Serbia and Albania are also experiencing record temperatures, while Romania and Bulgaria are under heat warnings. Scientists believe that this heatwave is the worst ever recorded in Europe, having a significant impact on public health and infrastructure. An intensification of the heat is expected in the coming weeks, with increased risks of wildfires. Additionally, heat-related tragedies have been reported, including deaths among children and cyclists. Ukraine is preparing to face additional challenges to its energy network, already affected by war.
